Join NHTSA on Twitter on July 31 for a Heatstroke Tweetup

Did you know that heatstroke is the leading cause of non-crash-related deaths for children under 14? Already 10 children this year have lost their lives to heatstroke after being left in vehicles. In fact, each year, an average of 37 children die from vehicle heatstroke.
While it seems like an impossible mistake to make, every parent or caregiver can potentially become distracted, and distractions often fuel this devastating situation. No one is immune. This tragedy is 100% preventable. We each have a role to play to help keep kids safe. Help  share live-saving tips and resources with as many people as you can about this important safety topic. Join National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Tweetup. Your support can help us prevent tragedies.
nHTSA will be tweeting all day on Friday, July 31, 2015, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET with the hashtags #heatstrokekills and#checkforbaby. They’ll be sharing information, safety tips, badges, infographics, and other resources to help spread the word about the dangers of vehicle heatstroke.

Happy 5th Anniversary eBay Mobile! (Spon)

Technology.  Multitasking.  Multitasking with Technology.

Love it.  Hate it.  They're both here to stay.    Consumers typically shop, read, or search through multiple devices and platforms – whether PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, starting the task on one device and continuing on another or use multiple devices at once to manage multiple tasks, shopping while watching TV, reading while listening to music, etc.  The list can go on.  I have seen many using their laptops with their smartphones (checking texts periodically) next to them as they are watching TV, while sitting with others in the same room doing the same things.  Is this our culture today?  It seems so.

Multitasking with technology has its pros and cons.

Some Pros: I have been known to find great deals on eBay on  my Smartphone or laptop. (Did you know there is eBay Mobile?)  Oftentimes, you can save money or be one of the firsts to experience something before others.

Some Cons: I have been known to walk in the mall, reading texts, checking emails or the latest shopping experience while walking with my hubby and son.  When I realized that, I tried to set limits for myself.  I thought of the Golden Rule: Treat others the way, you would like to be treated.  So when others are not multi-tasking with their pieces of technology, that is an example of myself doing the same.  I want to create memories not make time pass by with a blur.  I am not perfect oftentimes  I will be using my smartphone or my laptop (like I am doing now) in the presence of others.  Are you a multi-device user or do you usually stick to just one at a time?

So in honor of eBay Mobile's Anniversary, there is a Twitter Party:

Date: Wednesday, July 10
Time: 12-1pm PST
Party URL: www.ebay.com/mobile5 (Party URL will be live on the day of the event. Please note: you must participate from the URL to be elegible to win)

Hashtag: #eBayMobile
Prizes: $25 eBay gift cards given away every 5 minutes to a Tweeter who has RSVPd below and is actively participating in the party from the above URL.

$10 Courses

I love a great bargain especially when it comes to learning.  I also believe that money shouldn't be an obstacle to learning.  I tutor and So, when I received this email from Udemy, I was excited that I had to share it with as many people as possible.

Udemy is offering courses for $10, which is up to 90% off on selected courses (seems like many courses though). The deal expires in about four days.  If you  can use it, use it.  If not pass to others you think will benefit.  Here is the code: SUMMER13 code.

EEOC to Participate in Live Twitter Chat Equal Pay Day Tuesday

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will participate in a “Tweet Chat” on Tuesday, April 9 from 1-2 p.m. ET to discuss the pay gap between women and men. The Equal Pay Tweetchat, using the hashtag #talkpay, is sponsored by the National Women’s Law Center, with these distinguished guests:

·         U.S. EEOC Chair Jacqueline Berrien
·         Jocelyn Samuels, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice
·         U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (MD)
·         Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3)

During the chat, EEOC, along with other organizations, will answer questions on the issue of pay discrimination using its Twitter handle @EEOCNews.

The EEOC seeks to heighten awareness of gender-based wage discrimination on Equal Pay Day, which is held annually in April to signify the point in the year that a woman must work to earn what a man made the previous year. According to the most recent data, women earn only 77 percent of what men earn in a full-time annual salary.

The EEOC has been at the forefront of the federal government’s effort to secure equal pay for women. As part of the National Equal Pay Enforcement Task Force created by President Obama, the Commission has undertaken important efforts to raise awareness and strengthen enforcement of wage discrimination laws. The 50th Anniversary of the Equal Pay Act, enforced by the EEOC, will be commemorated this June.

The EEOC is the federal government agency responsible for enforcing anti-discrimination laws in the workplace.  Further information about the EEOC is available at www.eeoc.gov.
