Bowling: AMF Summer Unplugged

Summer is upon us.  I am sure your kids have complained that they are "bored" or "there is nothing to do."  I have always kept my child's schedule semi-structured during the summers because I believe children need to know how to fend for themselves--teach themselves how not to be bored sometimes.

Other times, I have planned some activity such as bowling.  My son likes bowling.  This activity is always a success.  He has gone to bowling themed birthday parties and also with family members.  I love the fact that the bowling alley will put up gutter shields to ensure the child knocks some pins down.  What a great way to build their self esteem and to enjoy playing bowling.  So, I was excited when I heard about the AMF Summer Unplugged, where there are some great deals to take your children to bowling.

Summer Unplugged- You can spare your kids from boredom (and the heat)! Two free games every day
for each child ages 15 and under registered in the Summer Unplugged program* (Shoe rental not
included, but they're worth paying for.). Sign-up here for free bowling all summer long!

*You can register up to six children in the program. If you would like to add more children, you will
need to create a new account using an alternate email address.

Happy 5th Anniversary eBay Mobile! (Spon)

Technology.  Multitasking.  Multitasking with Technology.

Love it.  Hate it.  They're both here to stay.    Consumers typically shop, read, or search through multiple devices and platforms – whether PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, starting the task on one device and continuing on another or use multiple devices at once to manage multiple tasks, shopping while watching TV, reading while listening to music, etc.  The list can go on.  I have seen many using their laptops with their smartphones (checking texts periodically) next to them as they are watching TV, while sitting with others in the same room doing the same things.  Is this our culture today?  It seems so.

Multitasking with technology has its pros and cons.

Some Pros: I have been known to find great deals on eBay on  my Smartphone or laptop. (Did you know there is eBay Mobile?)  Oftentimes, you can save money or be one of the firsts to experience something before others.

Some Cons: I have been known to walk in the mall, reading texts, checking emails or the latest shopping experience while walking with my hubby and son.  When I realized that, I tried to set limits for myself.  I thought of the Golden Rule: Treat others the way, you would like to be treated.  So when others are not multi-tasking with their pieces of technology, that is an example of myself doing the same.  I want to create memories not make time pass by with a blur.  I am not perfect oftentimes  I will be using my smartphone or my laptop (like I am doing now) in the presence of others.  Are you a multi-device user or do you usually stick to just one at a time?

So in honor of eBay Mobile's Anniversary, there is a Twitter Party:

Date: Wednesday, July 10
Time: 12-1pm PST
Party URL: www.ebay.com/mobile5 (Party URL will be live on the day of the event. Please note: you must participate from the URL to be elegible to win)

Hashtag: #eBayMobile
Prizes: $25 eBay gift cards given away every 5 minutes to a Tweeter who has RSVPd below and is actively participating in the party from the above URL.

Women At Woodstock Comes to Both Coasts in 2013

Women At Woodstock, a series of annual retreats for women 50 (or so) and up, is expanding this year to both coasts, coming to Berkeley this July as well as repeating last year's inaugural retreat in October in Woodstock, New York.  The Berkeley retreat will run from July 28-31, and the Woodstock, New York retreat will run October 6-9.

These iconic women from the Boomer generation are among those speaking and leading workshops at this year's retreats:

Suzanne Braun Levine - the first editor of Ms. Magazine and author of several books on women in the post-50 stage of life.

Gloria Loring - singer, songwriter, and actress, known to many as Liz Chandler on "Days of Our Lives" .

Angela Mason - Director of Development for Women's Earth Alliance and former advocate for women at children for World Vision.

Alice Barden - a multiple award winning actress and playwright/performer of "Alice and Elizabeth's One-Woman Show".

Barbara Hannah Grufferman - over-50 fitness expert and star of the online television series hosted by AARP, "The Best of Everything"  .

Gwen Gordon - An expert on and advocate for play in adult life; and former designer and builder of Muppets for Sesame Street.

Sherry Amatenstein - author of The Complete Marriage Counselor and an interviewer for Steven Spielberg's Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation.

Bobbi Palmer - dating and relationship coach for women over 40 and CEO of "Date Like A Grownup".

Carolyn Braddock - Nationally known speaker and creator of the Braddock Body Process

Women At Woodstock retreats have attracted sponsorships by Wello Women, a program of PepsiCo Nutrition Ventures, Slater Success Coaching, and Date Like A Grownup, among others.

Registration is open to any interested woman age 50 (or so) and above and may be done online at http://womenatwoodstock.com/register/.  Each retreat is limited to 100 women to maintain an intimate atmosphere for all workshops, discussions, and activities and to allow participants to meet and get to know the presenters personally. Early registration is encouraged to avoid losing out on available spots.

Some background:
  • Boomer women are hungry for gatherings like Women At Woodstock - content-rich retreats by and for women over 50 that are about all aspects of their lives.
  • Women At Woodstock's inaugural event in 2012 was notable because it:
    • Was promoted solely through word of mouth and social media
    • Attracted 50 women from all over the US - California to New York - and Canada - to gather at a secluded spa in Woodstock, NY for a 4-day retreat
    • Attracted notable speakers: Suzanne Braun Levine, the original editor of Ms. Magazine; Amy Ferris, playwright & author of Marrying George Clooney; Hannah B. Grufferman, author of The Best of Everything After 50; Kristine Van Raden and Molly Davis, editors of Letters To Our Daughters; and many more accomplished women
    • Created bonds, connections, and friendships that are strengthening and growing to this day; many Women At Woodstock alumnae continue to regularly email, call, and meet with one another; several now do business together; and some have even vacationed together
    • Is a harbinger of things to come; over-50 women who came of age in the 60's and 70's are reconnecting and reigniting their passions - for creativity, for change, for doing good in the world, and for wielding power both personal and political
  • In short, "the times they are a-changing" for Boomer women - all over again.  Women At Woodstock is at the forefront of this movement toward reconnection, inspiration, and change.
